Grandma Sweet passes on

I received some very bad news yesterday day from Jessie. Grandma Sweet has passed away. So I don't have to try and retype the information, here is what I sent to my staff:

" My grandmother Sweet passed away yesterday somewhat unexpectedly. In the last week or so she has been in the hospital and a rehabilitation center because she stopped taking some medication and grew weak. She fell down and that started a whole avalanche of stuff. She was an incredibly strong woman and I think she felt it was time. She was 90 and didn't really move around. She hated being driven to the doctor, refused to use a walker, and I think she got sick of taking all of the medication. A couple of days ago it sounded like things were getting better and they were going to send her home. But yesterday morning the nurses went to check on her early in the morning and she had passed. Sounds like it was peaceful and on her terms. This means that there is a good chance I won't be here Friday for Admitted Student Day since I will have to go down to California. I will likely know more today but am anticipating the service, etc. will be later this week or this weekend. This has been a bad 2 years for the Sweet family. My dad passed away almost 2 years ago, my aunt Lila passed away about 6 months ago, and now my grandmother."

Future husband material?

Based on these pictures and the fact he has two very smart parents, what do you say?

Pics from Emma's B-Day Party

Emma enjoyed her "red velvet" cupcake and her presents.

Emma's 1 Year Check-Up

Emma went in for her one year check-up today. She is off the charts in height at 31.75 inches (well above the 97th percentile line). Her weight is at the top of the charts in the 97th percentile at 26lbs.

She was given the green light to begin drinking whole milk instead of formula. She also gets to have her car seat turned forward which I am sure she will appreciate. We can also put a blanket in her crib with her (she loves to cuddle).

Dr. Bob was very impressed by Emma, particularly all of the teeth she has! Overall she is very healthy. She received 4 shots which she wasn't particularly happy about.

Emma's B-Day

Emma had a great birthday.....here is what we did:

On her birthday (last Friday) we took cupcakes to her school. It was cute to watch her and her classmates get frosting and cake all over the place. We then went out to dinner to Emma's favorite, Stanford's at Lloyd Center. She is a star there. All of the employee's including the general manager Mike know Emma. They all stop by our table to say hi to Emma. What is really funny is that Tasha's boss gave Emma a $100 gift certificate to Stanford's for her birthday. So most of the dinner was on Emma! We ate like kings and queens. Stanford's gave us a couple of free desserts to celebrate. It was a blast!

On Saturday we had Emma's party at Nana Jo's house. It was a nice gathering of family and friends. Emma received many fun gifts, she is truly spoiled, but that is perfectly fine and deserving! She had a lovely "red velvet" cupcake from Saint Cupcake that she got all over the place, but she loved it. The theme of her party was "Hello Kitty".

I will post pictures from both days very soon....

We take Emma in for her 1 year check-up today so I will pass on that information very soon as well.....

General Northern Sweets Updates

We are mostly ramping up for Emma's birthday party. Can't believe she is almost one already. Time flies! She did receive her first official birthday cards in the mail yesterday from her great-grandparents (Boompa and Grandma) as well Aunt Luci and Uncle Joe. We will be having her birthday party and Nana Jo's house on Saturday. We will be sure to post pictures, especially of her eating her birthday cupcake (sure to be a big mess).

Emma overall is doing quite well. She is making a good adjustment to school and doesn't cry as much when she is dropped off. She did have a little incident yesterday that required an incident report. She bumped her lip on the corner of a table and started bleeding. She is fine and you can hardly tell. As part of the "action taken" on the report, it listed TLC and hugs, how cute. Emma is incredibly curious about everything around her. She always points at things and loves to waive at people. She continues to smile almost non-stop. In addition to walking she is practically running.

Jessie is doing very well. She just got back from a short trip to Denver to visit a friend.

Tasha is doing very well also. She is keeping busy with work. She continues to loose weight and keep up with Emma.

Jr (or Chris) is doing fine. Work is going well and the numbers are very strong for the upcoming fall at this point.

Emma Enjoying Dessert for Poppa's Birthday

Emma enjoyed some mini-cheese cakes that Tasha made for Jr's birthday. She almost ate 2 all by herself. She was fun to clean up!!

Emma at Easter

Some pictures of Emma from Sunday. We celebrated Easter with Tasha's family. Emma had a blast.

Emma updates

Seems like every day or week Emma is learning something new. Some recent things that she has learned include a number of animal noises. You can ask her "what does a dog, fish, or monkey say?" and she will usually tell you. Pretty cute. She also learned to cover her mouth when she coughs, she has manners!!!!!!

All-in-all she is doing very well. Can't believe she is just a little over a week from being 1 year old! We take her in April 24th for her one year check-up and will share stats when we get them.

The ladies after birthday sushi dinner

Jessie found a great little sushi place in Hillsboro. We went there for Jr's birthday dinner and had a lovely meal. Jr even got to eat some shrimp heads, yummmm! Emma ate everything in sight. This was taken just after dinner outside the restaurant.
